What Your Car is Saying About You

What Your Car Says About You-

Is your car making you a target?

If you live in a city with car culture like Atlanta or LA you’ve likely spent some time thinking about what your car is saying about your personality. Your friends, your insurance provider, and even the law are probably making assumptions about you based solely on your mode of transportation so it’s good to know what vibe you’re putting out!

If you drive a black or red car…

Studies show that red car drivers are more inclined to want to stand out while black car drivers are aiming for a powerful, masculine vibe. Contrary to popular belief, red cars don’t get ticketed more often than other colors and in actuality, if you want to avoid a ticket you should avoid gray cars and go for white instead!

If you drive a common sedan model…

Think your Corolla, Accord, or Camry is practical? Yeah, so does everyone else. These types of cars are driven by “A to B” type people, say psychologists, and they want function more than form. You’re probably frugal and budget conscious and odds are you obey traffic laws, too.

You might think Mustangs are classic young-hotrod vehicles, and there are plenty of 17 year olds behind their wheels. In fact, Mustangs are most popular among Baby Boomers who are nostalgic for their childhood so if you’re thinking of getting a muscle car and you’re only in your 20s you may want to think twice.

If you drive a flashy luxury car (or a Hummer)…

Unfortunately, people likely peg you as the ostentatious type and odds are you’re not that courteous when it comes to traffic. Studies do suggest people who pay for high performance cars like them to…perform, thereby racking up more tickets than their less-over-the-top peers.

The obvious joke is that you’re probably a mom, and that’s likely true! You care more about cargo and gas mileage than the cool shape of an SUV and in many cases, minivan drivers tend to hold onto their vehicles long after their functionality has waned. Surprisingly, minivans have a higher than average rate of speeding tickets because they’re one of the most-often borrowed family cars by teenagers with a need for speed.

Of course, it’s impossible to generalize about someone based solely on what they drive. Even Warren Buffet drives a decade-old Cadillac! If you’re worried about being ‘targeted’ by the police based on a less-than-subtle ride you’d do well to obey all traffic laws and be courteous and non-aggressive on the road.

As for DUIs, the data on car-types is unclear but one thing’s for certain: motorcycle drivers are about 30% more likely to die in alcohol-related crashes. The lesson? Don’t drink and drive, no matter what you’re ride is.
